SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND) - The University of St. Martin (USM) is accepting applications for its General Educational Development (GED) Program for the Fall 2026 semester. Morning and evening classes will begin on Monday, August 24, 2026. The program offers individuals who did not complete high school another opportunity to earn a recognized secondary-level credential and move forward with their educational and professional goals. Participants may be seeking better employment opportunities, access to higher education or the achievement of a long-held personal goal. Ministry of Justice, MECYS, and Sint Maarten Library to Establish Satellite Library at Point Blanche Prison
SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Access to books, knowledge and lifelong learning took an important step forward with the signing of a Declaration of Cooperation between the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth & Sport (MECYS), and the Sint Maarten Library, with the support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to establish a Satellite Library at Point Blanche Prison. The agreement formalizes a long-term partnership to restore and modernize library services within prison, expanding equitable access to books, information and educational resources for people deprived of liberty. Betty Estate Shooting Incident Leaves Male Nursing Two Gunshot Wounds to the Legs
SINT MAARTEN (BETTY ESTATE) - On Thursday, July 24, at approximately 7:30 a.m., KPSM Dispatch received a report of a shooting in the Betty Estate area. Patrol officers were immediately dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from two gunshot wounds to his lower body. Ambulance personnel was notified, arrival shortly thereafter and rendered first aid at the scene before transporting the victim to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further medical treatment. The victim is currently listed in serious but stable condition. Preliminary information indicates that the victim was approached by two unknown individuals. SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) — The Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication (TEATT) has awarded a contract to Pinnacle Consultants, a Sint Maarten-based consulting firm, to develop the institutional and operational framework for the establishment of an Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) for Sint Maarten. An Investment Promotion Agency is a dedicated entity responsible for attracting, facilitating and supporting domestic and foreign investment.
