SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - A conversation that began that was initiated by project founder Soidi Ilis, Soidi Illis last year with students, parents and teachers is entering a new chapter as From Coils To Crowns 2 launches its mini podcast series, creating an ongoing platform for conversations around natural hair, heritage, identity and the stories behind our crowns. Under the theme “Real Stories. Real Women. Educator, author and long-time youth advocate Angelique J.G. Romou MSc. will officially launch her first published children’s book, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in celebration of International Literacy Day. The book, Saint Martin, I Love You Just the Way You Are: Yamir and Friends Explore Saint Martin, marks the beginning of an educational children’s series created to introduce Saint Martin’s youngest generation to the island’s culture, history, heritage, national symbols, people, natural environment and unique identity. CPS Urges Residents to Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites Following Heavy Rainfall

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY, (DCOMM) – The Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department within the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (VSA), is urging residents to take immediate action to prevent mosquito breeding following the heavy rainfall experienced on Sunday. The combination of rainfall, warm temperatures and densely populated areas creates favourable conditions for the Aedes aegypti mosquito to reproduce. This mosquito, commonly found in and around homes, can transmit diseases such as dengue and chikungunya. The Aedes aegypti mosquito lays its eggs in stagnant water that collects in everyday items, including buckets, discarded tires, flowerpots, water-storage containers, clogged drains and other objects left outdoors. Ministry TEATT says 48 Car Rental Operators are Compliant and Issues Final Notice to Outstanding Permit Holders

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication (TEATT), through the Inspectorate of Economic and Transport Affairs (IETA), has published the list of Car Rental operators that have successfully completed the 2026 Confirmation Letter Process. The publication recognizes those operators who have fulfilled the Ministry's administrative requirements and whose records have been verified as part of the ongoing public transportation database clean-up initiative. The initiative is aimed at establishing an accurate and reliable register of active public transportation operators, strengthening regulatory oversight, improving enforcement planning, and supporting evidence-based policy development. To date, approximately 48 Car Rental companies have successfully completed the 2026 Confirmation Letter Process and have been issued their 2026 Confirmation Letters. The Ministry advises all...

MAKAYLA COOKS SELECTED FOR FCCA 2026 YOUNG WOMEN’S MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE

SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND) - The Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication (TEATT), the Honorable Grisha Heyliger-Marten, proudly congratulates Ms. Makayla Cooks on being selected by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) for its Young Women’s Mentorship Initiative. Makayla’s selection follows a thorough local nomination process conducted by the Ministry of TEATT. The Ministry received 25 applications, of which 13 candidates were invited to participate in the pitch round. Six candidates appeared and presented before the Selection Committee, after which three young women were nominated to the FCCA for final consideration. Following its independent review, the FCCA selected Makayla for this valuable opportunity.
