Prime Minister Chairs Follow-Up Meeting on Proposed Surinam Airways Route to Sint Maarten

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Prime Minister and Minister of General Affairs, the Honorable Dr. Luc Mercelina chaired a high-level follow-up meeting on Monday, September 14, 2026, concerning the proposed introduction of Surinam Airways service to Sint Maarten. The meeting brought together representatives of Surinam Airways, the Cabinet of the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication, Princess Juliana International Airport, the Sint Maarten Tourism Bureau and the Department of Civil Aviation. The discussions followed the Prime Minister’s meeting with Surinam Airways officials at the airline’s headquarters in Suriname in November 2025. That engagement explored the possibility of establishing a regional air connection linking Paramaribo, Georgetown and Sint Maarten. Monday’s meeting focused on the further development of a comprehensive and sustainable business...

Brug congratulates Mrs. Dorothy Serrant on her remarkable 100th birthday

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Richinel Brug extends heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Dorothy Serrant, who celebrated the extraordinary milestone of her 100th birthday on September 14, 2026. “Reaching 100 years of life is truly a blessing. I extend my warmest congratulations to Mrs. Serrant and wish her continued love, peace and happiness surrounded by those who mean the most to her,” Brug stated. “Our seniors are more than a generation that came before us. They are part of the foundation upon which we stand today. They worked, sacrificed, raised families, built communities and helped shape the Sint Maarten that we inherited. As we move forward, we must never become too busy to honor them, listen to them and care for them.” “To Mrs....

Who Showed Up? Annual Report Reveals Sharp Attendance Gaps Among Sint Maarten MPs

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY – PARLIAMENT WATCH) - With 40 public meetings on the books, two Members of Parliament (MPs) were present for 95% of sessions — while one missed four in every ten. The Sint Maarten Parliament held 40 public (plenary) meetings during the 2025–2026 parliamentary year — and not every Member of Parliament (MP) made it a priority to show up for all of them. Attendance records published in the official Parliament Annual Report 2025–2026 reveal a wide gap between the most committed attendees and those who missed meetings most often. Two lawmakers tied at the top with near-perfect records. Veronica Jansen-Webster and Dimar Labega each attended 38 of 40 public sessions, achieving a 95% presence rate — the highest...

Sint Maarten Parliament 2025–2026: A Year of Digital Ambition, Seven Committees, and a House Stretched Thin

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - President Sarah Wescot-Williams opened the Parliamentary Year with a bold theme and an honest admission. Fifteen members, seventeen committees, seven factions — and a secretariat running on short staff. Here is what the annual report says about how Sint Maarten's Parliament is structured, who sits in it, and what it set out to do. The Parliament of Sint Maarten entered its 2025–2026 Parliamentary Year with an ambitious declaration. Under the theme "Building Digital Trust: Exploring a National AI Strategy and Further Development of an Open Parliament," the institution committed itself to a year of technological modernization, regional engagement, and renewed public accountability. What the annual report also reveals, between the lines of the official foreword and the dry organizational charts,...
