CPS Takes Proactive Measures to Safeguard Schools and the Business Community Against Respiratory Illnesses

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (VSA), through Collective Prevention Services (CPS), wishes to reassure parents, educators, employers, employees, and the wider community that proactive measures are being taken to promote healthy environments and minimize the spread of respiratory illnesses. Following recent reports of respiratory illnesses at Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performance Arts, including a confirmed COVID-19 case and flu-like symptoms among students and teachers, the Ministry acknowledges the concerns expressed by parents and school personnel. The school's temporary closure to facilitate cleaning and sanitization reflects its precautionary approach. CPS remains actively engaged in promoting preventive measures and public health awareness to protect the community. The Ministry encourages schools, businesses, and other institutions to...

Court hearing on alleged ill-treatment postponed pending witness interviews

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Court of First Instance on Wednesday, September 16, was to sat to consider the criminal case involving the alleged ill-treatment and unlawful deprivation of liberty of an employee. One of the suspects was scheduled to appear in Court. The case had been postponed in July with the expectation that proceedings could continue in mid-September. However, several witnesses must first be interviewed by the investigating judge. Due to scheduling constraints, these interviews are planned for November. The Court therefore postponed the case without setting a new hearing date. Proceedings will continue after the witness interviews have taken place.

Arrindell marks GEBE’s 66 Years with tribute to employees and renewed commitment to St. Maarten

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - NV GEBE marked its 66th anniversary today with Temporary Manager Iris Arrindell paying tribute to generations of employees who have helped keep St. Maarten moving, while also committing management to stronger communication, greater employee support and continued improvement in the company’s service to the community. In an anniversary message centered heavily on GEBE’s workforce, Arrindell said 66 years represents far more than the age of the utility company. It represents generations of employees who have served the company and St. Maarten through good times and difficult periods, including storms, outages, uncertainty, change and other challenges. “Through all of it, one thing has remained constant: our responsibility to serve people,” Arrindell said. She stressed that while GEBE is...
