Digitisation of Meteorological Archives Completed for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Bonaire Sint Eustatius and Saba

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The International Panel on Deltas and Coastal Areas (IPDC), on behalf of its partner organisations, today announced the successful completion of data rescue and digitisation activities for the historical meteorological archives of Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. By preserving historical data, policy-advisors now have critical insights into long-term weather trends that contribute to more accurate climate projections for the islands. This achievement is the result of a unique collaboration between the national meteorological services of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands. Unlocking critical climate data All historical records have been converted into digital images and, to a large extent, the data has been extracted into machine-readable formats. Through imaging, digitisation and secure storage, the project has preserved...

WIB: Sometimes building a stronger community starts with helping one child read

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - September brought together two important moments for Sint Maarten: Literacy Month and SDG Month. For Windward Islands Bank (WIB), it was also an opportunity to reflect on the role education and literacy play in building stronger, more empowered communities. Reading is one of the foundations of learning. It opens the door to knowledge, supports learning across subjects and helps children develop the confidence and skills they need as they progress through school and into their future. Throughout September, WIB team members contributed their time to activities that encourage reading and learning among young people. At Sister Borgia, WIB team members provide weekly Dutch language support, helping students strengthen their language skills and build confidence in their learning. Team members...

University of St. Martin Announces Dr. Rolinda Carter as Incoming President

SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND) - The University of St. Martin (USM) is proud to announce the return of Dr. Rolinda Carter, who will assume the role of President of the University of St. Martin in January 2027. For USM, Dr. Carter’s return represents more than a new chapter in leadership. It is a powerful reflection of what education, determination, and opportunity can make possible and of the role an institution can play throughout the different stages of a person’s life. Long before becoming an academic leader and scientist, Dr. Carter was a student at USM. Her educational journey at the University began through the GED program. From there, she continued her studies at USM and earned her Associate degree before pursuing further...
