CPS Encourages Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles for School-Aged Children

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY, (DCOMM) – As the 2026–2027 school year got underway this week, the Collective Prevention Services (CPS) is encouraging parents, guardians and caregivers to help school-aged children adopt healthy eating habits and active lifestyles. Nutritious meals are essential for children to perform at their best in school. A balanced breakfast, healthy lunch and nutritious snacks provide complex carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals that support brain function, concentration and sustain energy throughout the school day. Children who eat nutritious meals are generally better able to concentrate in class, retain information and maintain steady energy levels. Skipping meals or consuming foods and beverages that are high in sugar and low in nutrients can contribute to fatigue, mood changes and...

Prime Minister Mercelina: “Step by Step, We Must Build a Stronger Foundation for Sint Maarten”

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Honorable Prime Minister and Minister of General Affairs, Dr. Luc Mercelina, presented the Ministry of General Affairs’ priorities under the draft 2026 National Budget during today’s parliamentary deliberations. He outlined a realistic programme focused on restoring institutional stability, strengthening the civil service, improving Government’s execution capacity and reinforcing disaster preparedness. The Prime Minister acknowledged that the delayed handling of the 2026 budget reflects wider institutional challenges that must be confronted honestly and decisively. “This is not a message of pessimism. It is a call to realism and a call to action,” Prime Minister Dr. Mercelina stated. “After 16 years as a country, it is time to establish and firmly anchor the foundation of Government. We must get the...

MP Lewis: Minister of Justice Silence is Deafening on Justice Workers Placement and Back Pay

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Nation Opportunity Wealth (N.O.W.) Member of Parliament (MP) and Vice Chair of the Justice Committee in Parliament, Lyndon Lewis, is expressing serious concern over the continued silence of the Minister of Justice, Nathalie Tackling, regarding the placement of active and non-active justice workers and pensioners, as well as the implementation and execution of their retroactive payments, the MP said in a press statement on Wednesday to the media. MP Lewis’s concerns stem from numerous complaints received from employees across various departments within the Ministry of Justice regarding their correct placement and outstanding retroactive payments. “The Minister of Justice is simply too quiet on the issues that matter most within the Ministry she took an oath to lead,”...
