Tonight, through Tuesday evening: East northeast to east southeast with a gentle to moderate breeze at 10 to 16 mph, and higher gusts possible.
SYNOPSIS:
An approaching tropical wave is expected to increase moisture and instability across the local region during the next 24 hours. A deterioration in weather conditions is possible from Tuesday afternoon with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Some showers may be heavy at times and could lead to flooding in vulnerable areas. Therefore, residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Sea conditions are expected to remain slight over the next few days.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight WAVES/SWELLS: 2 to 4 feet
SPECIAL FEATURES:
1. A tropical wave, located about 300 miles east of the Leeward Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms and has a medium (50%) chance of development within the next 7 days. This system could bring rainfall accumulations of up to 4 inches across the local area over the next few days.
2. Another tropical wave in the central tropical Atlantic has a high (80%) chance of development over the next 7 days. Environmental conditions are expected to become more favourable by tomorrow increasing the potential for the formation of a tropical depression by mid week.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the Atlantic and provide updates accordingly.
