SURFACE WINDS: 
Tonight through Wednesday evening: North-northeast to east with a light to gentle breeze of 04 to 10 miles per hour, becoming variable and calm at times.

SYNOPSIS: 

A lax pressure gradient will continue to generate light winds across the local region. Within this wind flow, weak instability and low level moisture will account for cloudy periods, isolated showers and the chance of an isolated thunderstorm during this forecast period.

Sea conditions will be Moderate, at least through Thursday, with waves peaking near 7 feet, especially along the eastern and northern coasts. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.

SPECIAL FEATURES:  
At 5 pm, Tropical Storm Karl was located about 465 miles east northeast of St. Maarten. Karl is moving toward the west near 14 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. This system is forecast to pass north of the Lesser Antilles tomorrow through Thursday.

 
Nevertheless, bands of moisture and instability could generate cloudiness and increase chances for shower activity with the chance of an isolated thunderstorm across the local region. Residents are advised to keep updated on its progress.

At 5pm, over the open tropical Atlantic, Tropical Storm Lisa has strengthened slightly. This system is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph and additional strengthening is expected through Wednesday.  

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of these systems.
