SINT MAARTEN/THE NETHERLANDS/ESTONIA – While, on her recent working visit to the Netherlands, Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin visited the city of Eindhoven and Estonia to research and observe how e-Government processes can improve the overall public services delivered by the Government of Sint Maarten.

The strategic objective to improve public services is one of the key priorities of the Governing Program 2018 – 2022 “Building a sustainable Sint Maarten” of the current governing coalition.

Prime Minister Romeo Marlin travelled to Eindhoven and Estonia with a delegation, including civil servants of the ICT Department and staff of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet, to research the e-Government possibilities for St. Maarten.

Some of the key points addressed included how citizens can speedily access online government services through the digitizing of manual processes that are currently being offered at physical locations.

In addition, the presentations highlighted how a shift to online services can significantly reduce the issue of standing in long lines for clients of the Government of Sint Maarten, also how citizens and guests alike can make use of their smart phones to securely access government services online.

In order to achieve these goals, the visit to Estonia was significant as the public services in Estonia are well known as being the world’s forerunner in e-Government online services for the past 18 years.
