SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) - Last Saturday, August 3rd, the Nature Foundation St Maarten teamed up with SXM A.C.T.I.O.N (Aspiring Change to Impact our Nation) to initiate a monthly beach cleanup at various most used beaches on the island, SXM A.C.T.I.O.N said in a press statement on Monday.
“After almost two and a half hours, we managed to collect 176.77 pounds worth of trash, with only the 10 of us! said Representative from Nature Foundation.
“Common trash items included bottle caps, plastic bottles, straws and cutlery, glass bottles, cardboard, food wrappers, and balloons. All items were collected using reusable gloves and burlap sacks provided by 4ocean, and each bag was weighed using the trash tracker method from 4 Ocean.
“We all had a great time working together to improve our environment and help protect the ocean and its inhabitants. We hope more people stop littering and look forward to the massive turnout next meetup to help clean up our beaches!”
