SINT MAARTEN (ST. PETERS) - Tuesday August 12, 2020 marked Lions Club International Day of the Youth and to commemorate this day, the Sint Maarten Lions Club together with the Rotary Delft Vrijhoff Club donated 15 tablets and matching cases to the Sr. Magda School for their Remedial Dutch Language Reading program “Bouw”.
On hand was President Lion Alphons Gumbs, together with Immediate Past President Oralie Boirard, and other lion members, joined virtually by President Hans Lodder of the Delft Vrijhoff Rotary Club in the Netherlands, to make a donation to the Sr. Magda Primary school on behalf of both clubs.
Present to receive the donation were Sr. Magda School Location Manager Robin Boasman and Teacher Esther Conway Remedial Teacher.
Earlier this year Tr. Conway reached out to the Sint Maarten Lions Club for a donation request of 15 tablets for their Remedial Reading program at the Sr. Magda School to improve Dutch Language competencies of their students in the lower grades.
A few months later, during the Covid-19 lockdown, the Sint Maarten Lions Club learnt via a mutual contact, that members of the Delft Vrijhof Rotary Club in the Netherlands, wanted to make a donation to a sustainable project to one of the Kingdom communities within the Dutch Caribbean.
Youth is one the core values of Lionism, and with “Youth and Education” as our 2019-2020 signature project, we were delighted to partner with the Rotary club and assist Sr. Magda School with their remedial reading program.
The Sint Maarten Lions Club hereby thanks president Hands Lodder and the members of the Delft Vrijhoff Rotary Club for their generous donation of 2500.00 euros towards this project.
And we all look forward to the virtual presentation of the Remedial Reading program in action, when the students are allowed to return to school.
The future of a nation depends upon the youth of the country. The Sint Maarten Lions Club celebrates Lions International Youth Day with all our young brains and minds of our nation.
