SIMPSON BAY – The Attorney General of Curacao, Sint Maarten and the BES Islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius, Saba), on Thursday June 4th was the guests at a Kingdom Public Prosecutor’s Meeting that took place on Sint Maarten.
Twice a year, the Kingdom prosecutors come together including the Attorney General of Aruba, and the chairperson of the Dutch College of Attorney Generals to discuss and review the state of affairs where the prosecution of crime is concerned.
The attorney generals also discuss methods of fighting crime and closer cooperation with respect to best practices and how this can be utilized in other parts of the Kingdom.
Top priority for the public prosecutors is an increase in capacity in order to fight crime in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom; and organized crime.
The Attorney Generals paid a working visit to the National Detective Agency and the Kingdom Coast Guard. The visit to the National Detective Agency included the heads of the agencies on Curacao and Aruba.
Discussions with both entities focused on developments in 2014, and the Coast Guard provided information about its organization and the modes of operation.
The Attorney Generals were given a tour of the Simpson Bay Lagoon and along the coast.
