LATEST - Suspect Arrested in Simpson Bay Shooting that Left One Person Dead

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) - The Police announced on Friday afternoon that one person has been arrested in the shooting incident that left one person dead on Wednesday afternoon on Sister Modesta Road, Simpson Bay. 

The suspect presented himself at Police Headquarters (HQ) in Philipsburg. Detectives are currently questioning the suspect with respect to the shooting incident.

ARCHIVED - WEDNESDAY - SINT MAARTEN (SIMPSON BAY) - UPDATE One man is dead after he was shot in his torso by an unknown shooter on Sister Modesta Road Wednesday afternoon, the police in an update said on Wednesday evening.

Around 2:20pm, Police Central Control Room received multiple reports of a shooting that had occurred in Simpson Bay. Several patrols and paramedics were dispatched to the scene. At the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Police was informed that the victim had passed away shortly after from his wound.

The reason for the shooting is not yet clear. Suspect(s) are not yet known.

Patrol officers searched the neighborhood for the alleged suspects, but the search was unsuccessful.

Police forensic technicians are in the process of recovering evidence at the crime scene.

The Sint Maarten Police Force expresses its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The investigation into this tragic event is still ongoing.

ARCHIVED - SINT MAARTEN (SIMPSON BAY) – The Police said in a brief statement late Wednesday afternoon, that a shooting took place in Simpson Bay Village.

Upon arrival of the police patrol, a person was found laying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. An ambulance was called to the scene.
