Advancing St. Maarten's Sustainable Development Goals Through Green Dream Projects Foundation

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Green Dream Projects Foundation, led by Claude Javois, President of the Foundation, plays a key role in advancing the Government of St. Maarten's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its various waste management and recycling initiatives. Here’s how the Foundation aligns with and contributes to specific SDGs:

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

The Foundation actively promotes waste segregation and recycling programs across schools, communities, and businesses. These initiatives encourage responsible resource use, minimize waste, and foster a circular economy through efforts like the 'Trash2Treasure' program. This approach helps reduce the strain on local landfills and supports sustainable consumption practices throughout the island.

SDG 13: Climate Action

By diverting waste from landfills and implementing sustainable waste management practices, the Foundation helps lower greenhouse gas emissions associated with waste decomposition. Its efforts to ship recyclables off the island for further processing contribute to global climate action by reducing the environmental impact of waste disposal and advancing practices that mitigate climate change.

SDG 14: Life Below Water

St. Maarten's marine ecosystems benefit significantly from the Foundation's efforts to prevent plastic and other waste from entering the ocean. Recycling initiatives, such as the collection and export of plastic waste, help reduce marine pollution and protect the island's coastal ecosystems, preserving marine biodiversity.

SDG 15: Life on Land

The Foundation's initiatives to reduce landfill dependency support the conservation of St. Maarten’s natural landscapes, flora, and fauna. By minimizing waste accumulation, the Green Dream Projects Foundation helps preserve terrestrial ecosystems and reduces land pollution, promoting a healthier environment for residents and wildlife alike.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Collaboration remains a key focus for the Foundation, partnering with organizations such as Verde SXM Idex SAS, local businesses, schools, and government bodies. These partnerships facilitate resource sharing and knowledge exchange, enabling the Foundation to effectively pursue its sustainable development objectives.

Through joint efforts, the Green Dream Projects Foundation fosters a collective approach to addressing environmental challenges on the island.

By addressing these SDGs, the Green Dream Projects Foundation supports St. Maarten's transition toward a more sustainable future, demonstrating the government's dedication to global sustainability efforts.
