Workshop held for Institutional Strengthening of Government Subsidized Foundations

POND ISLAND, Sint Maarten - The Department of Youth in collaboration with the Departments of Sports and Culture hosted the workshop “Institutional Strengthening Government Subsidized Foundations” on July 8 and 9^th 2014 at the University of St. Martin (USM).

The workshop was held at USM and targeted representatives of current and potential recipients of government subsidies. Presentations were made on the following topics: the General Subsidy Ordinance, Subsidy Application, Creation of a Budget and Social and Financial reporting.

The presenters were all civil servants within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, from the departments of Youth, Culture, Sports Affairs and the Staff Bureau of the Secretary General.

It was a very interactive workshop as the 28 participants representing 18 non-governmental organizations were able to ask questions, engage in practical application of what was presented and also share their experiences. The immediate feedback from them was very positive as they expressed appreciation for the initiative as well as the need for more training opportunities.

Present was the honorable Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs Patricia Lourens-Philip to declare the workshop open early Tuesday morning.
