UP Candidates Prepare for Campaign and Review Party Manifesto for Governing Period 2014-2018

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The 23 United People’s (UP) Party candidates along with members of the UP Board and advisors gathered at the Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino on Sunday morning at 8.30am to review the party manifesto and also discuss other business for the upcoming election campaign.

Leader of the UP Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Theo Heyliger welcomed all those present and pointed out that the campaign is now on.

MP Heyliger added that the input of the candidates into the draft party manifesto was a necessity.  “Every candidate has ideas, and they are also in touch with the people in their respective districts.

“The UP candidates understand the issues and concerns of the people.  The UP party is solutions oriented and driven to execute and present to the people the results of its hard work on their behalf.

“The party’s manifesto is compiled from the ground up, and it will guide the party’s governing period of 2014-2018.  We are ready to lead and move this nation forward with a 23-strong qualified slate of candidates,” Leader of the UP Party Theo Heyliger said on Sunday.

The UP Party retreat was geared specifically for candidates focused primarily on equipping them with the basics of a successful candidacy and guidelines of the new electoral laws of country Sint Maarten.

Other topics included the budget, financial matters and an in-depth discussion on the party manifesto which covers the governing period 2014-2018 and beyond.

Toastmaster Rolando Tobias was on hand to give public speaking tips.

The UP Party retreat concluded at 3.00pm.
