SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - As of 1 December, a new login means (a digital authentication tool) will be available that will make it possible to litigate digitally before the Supreme Court in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom as well.
The login means access to the web portal of the Supreme Court, under the conditions set out in the procedural rules of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. As in the European part of the Kingdom, only lawyers and designated members of the Public Prosecution Service can access the web portal in criminal cases in the Caribbean.
Suspects cannot gain access. In tax cases, citizens who litigate themselves can choose to litigate digitally. However, legal entities, government organizations, and professional representatives such as a lawyer or tax advisor are obliged to do so.
The new means of authentication (login means) can only be requested through the Common Court. Front office staff of the Court play an important role in this process. They guide the process for participants who can gain access to the portal [and have requested it] in applying for the new login means.
When such a participant in the proceedings reports to the front office and it turns out that he or she does not have access to a Dutch login method, the front office employee submits an application to the Supreme Court.
After approval, an activation code will be sent by e-mail, which will give the process participant access to the portal. The Supreme Court then links the account to the correct file.
In order to properly prepare front office employees for this new way of working, information sessions have been organised on location.
In Aruba, these took place on November 3 and 4, 2025, and in Curaçao on November 5, 6 and 7, 2025.
Employees on Sint Maarten and Bonaire were able to attend the sessions digitally. Lawyers and tax advisers also received a digital newsletter with further explanation. A document with frequently asked questions about the use of the web portal has been published on the website of the Supreme Court.
With this new working method, digital access to the cassation portal is also made possible for parties in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom in a safe and accessible manner.
