SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce & Industry (COCI) recently hosted a corporate governance training titled “Governance in a Volatile World and Strategies to Govern Effectively” on March 6, 2026. The training was open to businesses and organizations of all sizes and was well attended by representatives from a wide range of sectors.

The session was facilitated by the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute, an organization well known throughout the region for its work in institutional training and capacity building in the area of corporate governance.

The initiative forms part of COCI’s ongoing efforts to empower businesses and institutions through capacity building and knowledge sharing. By facilitating training opportunities such as this, COCI aims to promote stronger governance practices within the local business community, which are essential for resilience, accountability, and sustainable growth.

Participants engaged in discussions on governance frameworks, leadership responsibilities, and practical strategies for effective decision-making in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global environment.

The session provided participants with an overview of key corporate governance principles and explored the role that governance frameworks play in strengthening organizational leadership, accountability, and strategic oversight.

The discussion offered participants an opportunity to reflect on governance practices that support responsible management and effective decision-making within their businesses and organizations.

COCI Director – Mr. Jude Houston, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “In today’s dynamic and often unpredictable business environment, strong corporate governance is more important than ever.

Through initiatives like this training, COCI seeks to equip businesses and institutions with the knowledge and tools needed to govern effectively, strengthen their operations, and contribute to the overall economic stability and development of St. Maarten.”

During the closing remark of the training Mr. Houston took the opportunity to thank all the businesses and entities that participated in the training and informed of COCI remaining committed to continuing initiatives that foster professional development, strengthen institutional capacity, and support the growth and sustainability of the island’s business community.
