SIMPSON BAY - Simpson Bay Resort held another festive carnival parade for guests on Tuesday, attracting over twice the number of participants of last week’s pioneering event.
Around 30 revelers – this time including regular carnival-season visitors from Curaçao and Aruba – took part, continuing the fête throughout the evening at the poolside.
The troupe donned an array of authentic costumes, and was joined by dancers, hotel staff, and signature local entertainers – Generation New Status drum band and Funtopia stilt-walkers and living statues.
Joyce Ann Thompson from Michigan, United States (right, foreground), was named ‘Ms. Simpson Bay’ after each reveler had one last chance to show their spirit, ‘crossing the stage’ to Soca amid crowd cheering.
Thompson has been visiting the island annually for 31 years, usually during carnival season.
