WEATHER WATCH: New Low Pressure System is No Threat. Less storm activity forecasted for the remainder of the season

ATLANTIC OCEAN/CARIBBEAN – The Low Pressure system centered between the west coast of Africa and the Cape Verde Islands has become disorganized. According to the National Hurricane Center, on Saturday morning August 16, the system has become disorganized and the potential for tropical storm formation has diminished considerably.
The National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center review in forecast says there is an increase in the chance of a below-normal season to 70 per cent. In May the NOAA had forecasted a 50 per cent chance of a below-normal season.
This translates into less storm activity between August and mid-October due to certain weather activity being missing from the mix needed to support the formation of storms. This however does not mean that a storm cannot form; therefore residents in the Caribbean region should still remain alert and be prepared.
The season has already seen the formation of two hurricanes namely Arthur and Bertha. The remaining names are Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, and Wilfred.
