Tonight through Monday evening: East-southeasterly with a gentle to moderate breeze of 08 to 14 mph. 

   

SYNOPSIS:    

Low level winds are expected to increase with the strengthening of the Atlantic high-pressure ridge. Meanwhile, daytime heating could trigger a few brief local showers.   

Seas are expected to remain moderate through the next few days. Small craft operators and sea bathers should continue exercising caution today.  

  

STATE OF THE SEA:  Slight to moderate         WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 6 feet  

   

SPECIAL FEATURES:  

  1. At 5:00 pm, the center of Tropical Depression Twenty was located about 1740 miles east-southeast of St. Maarten. This system is expected to become a Tropical Storm tonight and upgrade to a hurricane on Tuesday. Based on its projected path Tropical Depression Twenty is not expected to pose a direct threat to St. Maarten.   
  2. Hurricane Paulette, Tropical Depression Rene, and Tropical Storm Sally does not pose a threat to St. Maarten.   
  3. An area of disturbed weather located just off coast of Africa has a high (70%) chance of formation through the next 5 days. Additionally, another tropical disturbance is forecast to move off the coast of Africa by Monday. It has a low (30%) chance of formation through the next 5 days.  THE METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT OF ST. SPECIAL FEATURES:  

  1. …New Tropical Depression forms over the central tropical Atlantic… At 5:00 pm, the center of Tropical Depression Twenty was located about 2030 miles southeast of St. Maarten, moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. This system is not expected to pose a direct threat to St. Maarten.   
  1. At 5:00 pm, Tropical Storm Paulette and Tropical Depression Rene continued to move away, at safe distances from St. Maarten. These systems are not expected to pose a direct threat to St. Maarten. 
  1. An area of disturbed weather is located just off the west coast of Africa. This system has a medium (60%) chance of formation through the next 5 days.

SYNOPSIS:    

A slack surface pressure gradient will continue to generate mostly light winds across the region. Available moisture in the atmosphere will account for isolated showers.  

Northeasterly swells generated by Tropical Storm Paulette are producing above normal sea conditions. Swells are expected to peak at 9 feet during this forecast period. Consequently, a small craft advisory is in effect for St. Maarten. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution. 

  

STATE OF THE SEA:  Moderate to Rough       WAVES/SWELLS: 5 to 9 feet  

   

SPECIAL FEATURE:  

  1. At 5:00 pm, Tropical Storm Paulette and Tropical Storm Rene continued to move away, at safe distances from St. Maarten. Based on their projected paths, these systems are not expected to pose a direct threat to St. Maarten. 
  2. A tropical wave over the eastern tropical Atlantic has a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Gradual development is expected

and this system has a high chance (90%) of formation through the next 5 days.  

  1. Another area of disturbed weather is located just off the west coast of Africa. This system has a medium (40%) chance of formation through the next 5 days.  THE METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT OF ST. Tropical Depression #18 was upgraded to Tropical Storm Rene at 5:00pm. Rene was located about 2690 miles east-southeast of St. Maarten. It is expected to become a hurricane in the next two or three days. However, Tropical Storm Rene and is not expected to pose a threat to St. Maarten.

SYNOPSIS:     

A more stable atmosphere will influence the weather from tonight, however, pockets of low-level moisture could still produce brief passing showers. Saharan dust at lower concentrations will continue to affect the region on Friday. 

Slight to moderate marine conditions are expected for the next few days. 

   

STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to Moderate        WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet   

    

SPECIAL FEATURE:   

  1. A broad area of low pressure, located over the eastern tropical Atlantic, is producing a small area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Gradual development is possible early next week as the larger tropical wave located off the coast of Africa passes to the north of the system on Sunday.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.  

* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent. 

  1. A tropical wave located off the coast of west Africa is forecast to merge with another disturbance in its vicinity, resulting in an area of extensive disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Development of this system is likely to be slow during the next couple of days while it moves west northwestward at about 15 mph. After that, a tropical depression is likely to form early next week over the central tropical Atlantic where environmental conditions are forecast to become more favorable for development.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
