Caribbean Female Founders Take the Lead: Vision to Velocity 2026 Ignites a New Era of Leadership and Legacy

SINT MAARTEN/TRINIDAD & TOBAGO - At a time when the region is celebrating Female Founders Month and Mother’s Month, Vision to Velocity 2026 has emerged as a powerful reminder that Caribbean women are not only building businesses—they are building legacy.

The leadership conference brought together over 100 Caribbean entrepreneurs, professionals, and emerging leaders for a transformative experience centered on public relations, marketing, branding, monetization, and self-leadership—with a strong and visible presence of female founders leading from the front.

In a region where many entrepreneurs are navigating burnout, uncertainty, and misinformation, Vision to Velocity created a space for clarity, strategy, and execution—grounded in real-world experience from Caribbean business leaders who are actively building and scaling.

This was not theory. This was Caribbean leadership in action.

Attendees were challenged to rethink their businesses, elevate their visibility, and step into leadership with intention. Many left the room transformed, clearer, more confident, and ready to operate at a higher level within both regional and global markets.

Founder Shelly-Ann Aqui Solomon shared:

“This is about leadership and legacy. As Caribbean women, as mothers, as founders ,we are shaping more than businesses, we are shaping the future. When we step into that fully, everything changes.”

A defining moment of the conference was the recognition of the Positioned to Propel Success Academy graduates, entrepreneurs who have committed to structured growth and are now equipped to scale and lead with intention. Their journey reflects what is possible when Caribbean founders are given the tools and environment to thrive.

Equally powerful was the Next Generation Initiative, which introduced young women ages 17–25 to high-level business conversations, mentorship, and leadership environments. In a fitting tribute to the spirit of Mother’s Month, the initiative highlighted the importance of guidance, generational impact, and building pathways for the next wave of Caribbean female entrepreneurs.

Vision to Velocity spotlights its sponsors, who showed up in full support, driving the elevation, visibility, and growth of Caribbean entrepreneurs across the region.

As the Caribbean continues to evolve, one message rang clear:

Caribbean women are not waiting for opportunity, they are leading, building, and creating legacy for generations to come.

CPS & Butterfly Warriors Organize Lupus Information Session for Friday

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY, (DCOMM) – The Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (Ministry VSA) and Butterfly Warriors Lupus Support Group, have collaborated to organize an information session for Friday, May 8, 2026 starting at 6:00 pm at the Government Administration Building Rooms 1 & 2.

May is Lupus Awareness Month. On Friday evening there will be guests’ speakers, presentations, testimonials and refreshments.

May 10, 2026, is World Lupus Day under the theme, “Belonging. Belief.” This day is used to increase awareness of the symptoms and health effects of lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects millions of people worldwide.

The 2026 theme is “Make Lupus Visible.” The focus is on the "invisible" nature of the disease. Because many symptoms—such as extreme fatigue, joint pain, and cognitive issues—are not always apparent to observers, patients often face a lack of understanding from the public, employers, and at times healthcare providers.

You cannot "catch" lupus from someone else. While it can affect anyone, 90% of people living with lupus are women, and it is most common during childbearing years. It is estimated that at least five million people worldwide have a form of lupus.

Lupus is a chronic, auto-immune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). Chronic means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and often for many years.

In lupus, something goes wrong with your immune system, which is the part of the body that fights off viruses, bacteria, and germs (“foreign invaders,” like the flu).

Normally a person’s immune system produces proteins called antibodies that protect the body from these invaders. Auto-immune means your immune system cannot tell the difference between these foreign invaders and your body’s healthy tissues (“auto” means “self”) and creates auto antibodies that attack and destroy healthy tissue. These auto antibodies cause inflammation, pain, and damage in various parts of the body.

World Lupus Day is sponsored by the World Lupus Federation, a coalition of lupus patient organizations from around the world, united to improve the quality of life for people affected by lupus.

World Lupus Day serves to call attention to the impact that lupus has on people around the world. The annual observance focuses on the need for improved patient healthcare services, increased research into the causes of and cure for lupus, earlier diagnosis and treatment of lupus, and better epidemiological data on lupus globally.

Pensions as Foundation of Sustainable Prosperity

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - How do we ensure long-term prosperity in a region facing demographic change, economic pressure and evolving societal expectations?

For the first time, the annual seminar of the Caribbean Pension Funds Association (CaPAs) will be hosted in St. Maarten, with the event titled “Pensions and Prosperity” taking place on May 21, 2026, at the Sonesta, Maho Beach Resort. The seminar positions pensions not only as a financial arrangement, but as a key pillar of social stability, economic resilience and long-term development.

A broader conversation about prosperity

The CaPAs seminar goes beyond the traditional boundaries of the pension sector. It creates a platform for a broader discussion on the future of prosperity in the Dutch Caribbean. The focus is on how financial systems, demographic developments and individual behaviour interact. Together, these factors shape a stable and sustainable society.

“Pensions are not just about retirement income; they are a cornerstone of trust, stability, and long term prosperity in our societies,” said Oscar Williams, Chair of CaPAs. “Hosting our annual seminar in St. Maarten for the first time underscores the importance of inclusive regional dialogue as we consider how today’s decisions can support resilient and sustainable outcomes for future generations.”

Three perspectives, one shared challenge

The keynote session brings together three leading experts, each offering a complementary perspective on the theme:

  • Onno Steenbeek explores the role of pension systems as a driver of social stability, and the complex relationship between pension funds and governments.
  • Mr. Daniel van Vuuren addresses the impact of demographic developments such as ageing and migration, and compares pension models in the Dutch Caribbean and the Netherlands, looking ahead to 2050.
  • Ms. Parveen Boertje focuses on financial literacy, generational differences and the role of social insurance in building a more resilient and inclusive pension system.

Together, these perspectives provide a comprehensive view on how pension systems can evolve from certainty to resilience.

From insight to action

Following the keynote session, participants will engage in interactive breakout sessions, where the discussion moves from theory to practice.

Topics include:

  • The role of individual responsibility and the third pension pillar.
  • The balance between individualism and collective systems.
  • The impact of financial risks on households and the wider community.

The seminar concludes with an interactive plenary session, where participants reflect on the insights gained and explore the question: what steps do we take tomorrow?

Date: May 21, 2026
Location: Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Sint Maarten
Time: 1:00 PM – 5:30 PM

The seminar is open to professionals and interested stakeholders from across the region.
