POLICE ARRESTS SUSPECT ON FRIDAY MORNING AND CONFISCATES FIREARM
SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) arrested one suspect and confiscated a firearm following a police operation connected to a suspected attempted robbery in the Philipsburg area on Friday, August 28, 2026. At approximately 10:00 a.m., the Police Central Dispatch received information from members of the public regarding two scooters carrying four male individuals, all reportedly dressed in black, traveling from the French Quarter area in the direction of Philipsburg. Shortly after receiving the information, several police patrols and detective personnel were immediately dispatched to the Philipsburg area. SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) is once again expressing serious concern regarding school fights that have already occurred during the first few weeks of the 2026–2027 school year. KPSM has become aware of and has viewed several videos circulating on social media showing students involved in physical altercations. Of particular concern is the apparent practice of organizing, encouraging, or incentivizing these fights so that they can be recorded and shared on social media. The motion, submitted by Member of Parliament Egbert J. Doran, focuses on updating Sint Maarten’s price-controlled basket of goods and making sure that the system works in a way that people can actually understand and benefit from.
