Battle of the Clubs: A Night of Fellowship, Fun, and Rotary Spirit

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - On the 22nd of August 2025, The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset proudly hosted its first-ever Battle of the Clubs Game Night, bringing together members from all five Rotary clubs on the island for an unforgettable evening of fellowship, friendly competition, and true Rotary spirit. More than just a game night, the event highlighted August as Membership and New Club Development Month on the Rotary calendar. In keeping with that theme, the Club was thrilled to welcome 12 prospective members, each given the opportunity to mingle with Rotarians, participate in team challenges, and experience first-hand the warmth, energy, and togetherness that define Rotary. CAft: Continuation of reforms keeps healthcare affordable

ARUBA (ORANJESTAD) - Aruba has been realizing surpluses since 2023 and repays debts annually. Combined with the economic growth, this leads to a rapid reduction of the debt ratio. At the same time, the foundation remains fragile: interest expenses remain exceptionally high, and due to the aging population, healthcare expenditure will make up an increasingly larger share of the budget in the future. The CAft also identifies risks regarding the hospital. Reforms remain necessary to ensure sustainability of public finances. Future-proof healthcare The CAft notes that Aruba is showing positive developments in several areas within healthcare. For example, the healthcare ratio of 8.7 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023 has been reduced. Controlling healthcare expenditure remains important given the aging population. In...

SHTA Argues for Sustainable Tourism Development on World Tourism Day

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - In 2018, the St. Maarten Hospitality & Trade Association (SHTA) published a vision with island improvement points for when it would celebrate its 55th birthday in 2025. The vision focused on quality of life for all St. Maarten residents as its highest goal, supported by the three pillars of a sustainable economy, a beautiful and healthy island and good governance. St. Maarten’s success as a tourism destination did not drop from the sky. Its attractive shores, hills and friendly people were key features why St. Maarten established a loyal following of visitors since the 1960s. As today’s World Tourism Day theme is “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, a befitting sentence of back when comes to mind: “Managing...
